Virtually unknown to our enemies and the rest of the World, the U.S. Army would construct and operate its largest airbase in a remote desert town named Wendover, Utah. It was here that Colonel Paul Tibbits would train the 509th Composite Group to fly the difficult banking maneuvers in the B-29 Superfortress bomber to drop the first atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki Japan, thus ending the war. America's involvement in World War II would begin with the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii by the Japanese Imperial Forces, and ending with the unforgettable conclusion of the atomic bomb missions developed in a little sleepy town of Wendover.
